This past weekend I went on a retreat with the Christian Union group from Deakin. We went to Phillip Island and stayed in a vacation home. We had a late dinner and played some "getting to know you" games, including 'never have i ever'. We also went on a late walk on the beach. That was a lot of fun. I was able to talk to people to get to know them better. The stars were very beautiful too. A few of the Australians also pointed out some of their constellations. Then we had the adventure or trying to find our way back. We had taken a small path to get onto the beach and couldn't find it on our way back because it was so dark. We got back eventually though.
We had an early start at 8am on Saturday for breakfast. After breakfast we had a discussion. The theme of the weekend was called 'The Great Exchange'. During the weekend we talked about how we could exchange our bad ways for God's Will. We also had morning tea. We did not drink tea but had something called cordial. They come in different flavors such as fruit cup or banana mango. It is pretty much a concentrated juice that you add to water. It's pretty much flavored sugar water. It was good though. We also had cookies (called biscuits in Australia). We also had some really good BBQ for lunch and then it was beach time! A group of us headed to the beach. I played cricket again on the beach and also played some ultimate frisbee (which an American had taught them the year before). We also played in the ocean a bit. That afternoon we had group discussions. The one I went to was on bible reading, which I found interesting. That night we did some prayer and singing and then hung out and played games. There was also a chocolate fountain for dessert!
Sunday morning was another early morning. We had our last discussion and talked about where we go from here. We were going to have fish and chips on the beach but the weather was looking a little iffy, so we had it in the backyard instead. It was also someone's birthday that day, so there was chocolate cake for dessert. After that was the ride home, which I slept most of the way through. I was so tired after that long weekend, but I did have a lot of fun. I was able to meet new people and focus on God.
Cheers,
Brittany
